Road Rage

We have all seen examples of Road Rage and probably realize it can lead to a health 911 emergency. I'll refer to just two of a dozen I reviewed today.

The first one involves an car tapping his breaks to get the Ford Suburban behind to back off from tailgating. This angered the Ford driver enough that road rage took over. He pulled up alongside the slower car and they both exchanged words . Things got more serious when the guy in the Ford pulled out a gun and pointed it directly at the folks in the slower car. They both pulled over and the Troopers arrived. The man with the road rage identified himself as an Altanta, GA police officer. And claimed his ' gun ' was really a cell phone. No one is immune from road rage.

The second report involved two motorcycles making a left turn after stopping for stop sign. An oncoming car did not stop and nearly caused an accident. There were words as both pulled to the side of the road. There was road rage. Then both drove off in different directions. Later the bikers noticed the same car in their rear view mirrors. Who would have thought that this car full of road rage would strike both bikes, sending them flying off the road. And killing one and seriously injuring the other. Police are looking for that driver and car.

Another report today mentioned a road rage incident caused by a car's high beams. We all know of some like that. Even pulling right up behind and blinding you. Yeh, we get angry. But we also need to control our response because who knows what might happen next. Things could get a lot worse in a hurry. And would it be worth it. No.

I know of a four wheeler that tangled with an 18 wheeler tractor trailer. This driver seemed determined to upset the big truck driver. Cutting him off. Slowing down so trucker lost momentum for the next hill, etc. Words were exchanged when within hearing distance and both pulled over. The trucker and driver both got out and came towards each other. Both seemed full of road rage but the trucker ended up dead when the smaller guy pulled a gun and shot him. No matter who is right or wrong.....is it worth it..? No.

Canker Sores

I'm one of the 25% who get canker sores. They can be very painful and distracting. Why some of us get them and others do not is a mystery to me. Checking recent medical reports again did not help. Even the professionals don't know what causes them and many of them don't even treat them. One doctor honestly mentioned they used to think it was the herpes virus but now believe that is wrong. Another doctor believes they are stress related. Some students only get them at exam time. Plus many other theories.

At least they aren't contagious like cold sores are. Cold sores we get on the outside of mouth, etc. Canker sores are inside. And tend to run in families. In fact, children have a 90% chance of getting them if their parents also had them. Here are two resources if you would like more information on these painful mouth sores.

Car Cell Phones cause Accidents

We were taught to drive with both hands on wheel and eyes on the road. And most drivers did this, knowing it was the safe thing to do. But now it seems driving is changing. And not for the better. How many times do we see drivers talking on the phone ? Its illegal here in New York but you would never know it. They don't even try to hide it. Most refuse to pull over. Worst case for me was observing a man driving his 18 wheel tractor trailer with one hand and speaking into phone in the other hand. All the while negotiating that big rig in traffic.

The reports are starting to pile up confirming the foolishness of all this. Over 40% admit to talking on cell phone while driving. Take just the ' slower reaction time ' factor. Its been proven drivers talking on phone react 18% slower than normal drivers. That may not sound like much but can make all the difference in many situations.

Do you think that might explain the fact drivers talking on phone are four times more likely to be involved in a serious accident ? And would you believe that using a ' hands free ' phone is not much safer?

One research test showed 8 out of 10 younger drivers (under 25) think nothing of regular phone use while driving. And they wonder why their age group has such high rates. Most states are now planning new laws to correct this driver distraction.

Germany and the United Kingdom will cancel your insurance if accident takes place while talking on the phone. In July 2004, the California Association of Employers recommended that employers develop a cell phone policy that requires employees to pull off the road before conducting business by cell phone. Is that asking too much? I don't think so. Do you?

Death by Computer Game

These two reports were amongst many of the Health911 situations I looked at today.

A 28 year old S. Korean man died after 50 hours of playing on-line battle simulation computer game. Only stopped for bathroom break and short naps. He quit his job so he could devote himself to playing without distraction. And then the ' ultimate ' distraction arrived - death.

Officials said he died from heart failure caused by exhaustion. Very sad. Is it not true this can be addicting like so many other things in life? Click here.

AP reports paramedics responding to 911 call about a very sick child. They found this 13 year old middle school runner lying on her apartment couch with oxygen mask. She was nearly dead from an infection of her belly button caused by her own effort to pierce it.

How many piercing their body these days realize the risk of infection ? This girls mother will probably be charged with a felony. Her ' distrust ' of doctors will be no excuse. Click here.

Head Lice News

Head Lice problem in the news again. I've never had it but can understand how embarrassing it would be. An itchy head with all these little bugs moving around, laying eggs, etc. And wondering where they came from. And who else in the house has it. And whats the best way to get rid of them.

Click here for the most recent head lice Medical Report. These British researchers proved wet combing best way to get rid of this problem. Worked four times better than pharmacy-bought chemical head lice lotions. These bugs have developed resistance to common over the counter products. They can't hop , fly, or jump around. We get them from head to head contact. Or directly contacting infested clothing. Or sharing same pillow, etc. They love a head to live in where there is warmth, food, and shelter.

Here are two more head lice links that will introduce you to some people that had this problem and what worked for them. The third link leads to organization devoted to Head Lice problem.
